  • DAYBREAKERS

submitted at Jan 8, 2010 at 1:49 PM by Tim Haskell

For some crazy reason I was not invited to the premiere of Daybreakers, the new vampire flick starring Ethan Hawke and Willem Defoe. But I am going to see it today and post a review over the weekend. I care because it is a real vampire film. Not just real in that it is not a tweener vampire film or tv show or what have you, but also in that word has it that it is pretty good. The NY Times gave it an excellent review today and Time Out NY(read more)

  • Donny No Skins

submitted at Jan 7, 2010 at 1:50 PM by Tim Haskell

Check out this macabre animated series about a little boy who was born with no skin aptly titled “Donny No Skins”. I think this should be on television; it is very funny and original. check out these shorts:

  • Happy New Year's Fellow Freaks

submitted at Jan 5, 2010 at 12:37 PM by Tim Haskell

I think wishing people “Happy New Year” is as empty of a sentiment as there can be. Considering people say it until like March, it truly is just a substitute for “how are you” for those who have gotten bored with saying that and need a three month reprieve from the same empty pat salutations. I mean, if you truly think about it, what really happens when the clock strikes midnight on January 1st? Nothing. There is a symbolic “out with the old in with the new” but nothing truly, physically ushers that in. Other than the …(read more)

  • Dexter Season 4 - A Review

submitted at Dec 14, 2009 at 5:48 PM by Tim Haskell

Dexter is the best show on television, obviously. If you don’t agree you can blow it out your ear. And I have never really written a review of it (largely because the show pre-dates Haunternet and there was no sense starting to review the show starting with Season 2, and I’m lazy). But i was compelled to say a few words about Season 4.

Season 3 was somewhat of a disappointment. It was still the best show on television, but True Blood was thinking about taking its place (My …(read more)

  • Film Review: The Road

submitted at Dec 11, 2009 at 5:43 PM by Tim Haskell

I haven’t read the Cormac McCarthy book that the movie is based on, but I have spoken to two people who have and the consensus seems to be that the movie is the book on screen. Except, in the translation of putting those images from a book onto the screen it achieves a bleakness that surpasses that of the book. That the book is actually a bit more hopeful. Not having read the book I can only vouch for what I got out of the film which was extremely un-hopeful. It was a beautifully conceived, wonderfully acted, well directed movie, but as depressing as …(read more)

  • My Show Last Life starring The Last Dragon - Taimak

submitted at Dec 8, 2009 at 4:06 PM by Tim Haskell

Since I am on a theatre kick, i might as well tell you about my new theatrical endeavor that i absolutely know you’d love. It is called Last Life and it is a savagely brutal action play with scores of very real stage violence. Street fighting is the style here. Ears are cut off, throats are slashed, noses are bitten off, people are urinated on, lots of people have the shit kicked out of them. It is part of a festival called Fight Fest here in NYC. There are 8 other shows in the festival, all very cool, and all …(read more)
