- History:
- Indian Point Energy Center (IPEC) is a three-unit nuclear power plant station located in Buchanan, New York just south of Peekskill, New York. It sits on the east bank of the Hudson River, approximately 35 miles north of New York City. On February 15, 2000, the Indian Point II Power Plant vented a small amount of radioactive steam when an aging steam generator ruptured. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission initially reported that no radioactive material was released, but later changed their report to say that there was a leak, but not of a sufficient amount to threaten public safety. One of the most historic features of the Peekskill area was the famous Peekskill Carnival which had been in existence since 1945. Combining the features of a classic circus and carnival this park was a family favorite for over 60 years. Less than two years after the “leak” which was not a threat to public safety the Peekskill Carnival was shut down due to some strange occurrences at the park. In the summer of 2006 the creators of Face the Fear purchased the park and all of it’s contents to put it on display as the Seminole County Fall Carnival.
Tragically the carnival was open for only one day. It appears that events in Peekskill impacted the carnival more than originally thought. A few guests got to see the strange remains of the Peekskill Carnival, unfortunately those guests never returned. Over a three day period one of the most terrifying search and rescue missions ever is unfolding in the Seminole County area. Do you have what it takes to face the unknown? 88% of Americans live in fear of some type of nuclear accident or radiation poisoning. Can you imagine what would happen if the effects of this kind of accident had been hidden for over 6 years?
