History:
The Origins of the Doctor Haunt: A warning to the living An Account by: Conrad Graves Strange how death has a way of telling you that it is near. It's eternal spectral hands appear out of the void to asphyxiate you of your being and take your soul into the very depths of the hell. I was never very poetic, though I had always wanted to be a writer. I guess that it doesn't matter anymore. I'm a dead man anyway. The Death has been around since before any of us, perhaps even before the dawn of time. Although, all that we need to be solely concerned with is The Death's presence in our society today. It thrives by the essence of others, a Nosferatu of sorts. It does not go out and hunt for its prey, rather it waits for an unsuspecting victim to come and find it. You can only become targeted after you come into contact with its remains; a disease of sorts you could say. Once you are infected though there is nothing that is possible to delay it. Death. I first came into contact with it as a young boy. My grandfather had come home from an expedition in the South America' s and had brought back with him an ancient Aztec artifact. He had always told me that I would receive it when I turned of age, and became an honorable man. Suddenly though four months after he returned he died, an unexpected, and horrible death. I remember it as though it were yesterday. . . I walked into the study and saw a lifeless pile of gore hunched over that Aztec chest there was a hastily scribbled message splattered with blood it read: DEATH TO THOSE WHO WOULD OPEN THIS BOX Although I was scared witless the chest had a strange allure to it. I couldn't help myself I wanted with all my might to peer into that primeval box and find the mystery within. It was at that time that the nanny walked in. As soon as she saw the trunk she gave a small squeal of terror and snatched it out of the room. She left and did not return for two days. It was never mentioned in that household again. If only that had been the end of it. . . I had almost forgotten the entire horrifying incident when, by chance, I was walking along a side alley in my old neighborhood. There I walked across an old warehouse that had the simple sign 'Pawn Shop'. I didn't want to, I had a dark sickening feeling, but something compelled me to walk in that shop that fateful day. . . A decrepit man greeted me in a raspy gravel on sandpaper voice, "1 believe you are looking for this." I was overwhelmed at what he produced from underneath the counter. It was that archaic crate from so long ago. I felt a wanting so powerful that my hands had begun to shake violently. He continued in a voice that commanded my attention, "This is an evil and accursed item you must be aware of the penalty that possession of such a malevolent force brings. This is the one box that holds the remains of The Death. The Death has been in existence longer than any of us might know. It can never die for it is dead. It will haunt your footsteps, and you shall know it is near. Nothing will stop it. You will become the hunted. It will stalk you to the very ends of this earth. It shall be given unto you.” With that he granted me ownership of that evil relic. His face turned into an evil grimace baring fangs, his skin began to decay, and in a voice that was only granted to those who could control the very gates of hell he added, “THE DEATH AWAITS YOU!” Darkness encircled me stealing away my consciousness. I opened my eyes and found myself trapped in that horrible shop. It had turned into my worst nightmare. Corpses decorated the hall as satanic wreaths and frames. In my hands the box called to me in a voice of brimstone. Without hesitation I obeyed and looked into it there I saw a rotting human head. It levitated until it became eyelevel with me. It spun around and I became face to face with. . . myself. For the sake of my sanity I will not continue further. I have disposed of hat vile relic, but for how long I know not. This truly is my last account. I am anxious to die, there is nothing left for me in this life. Wait! The Death is close I feel it's foul presence drawing near. Dr. Haunt is coming. . . I'm already dead I wait only until it becomes an unarguable truth. I'm sorry Grandpa. Please forgive my weakness I'll be with you shortly. Now I can rest, finally sweet reli--- He's here.
